Giginski Monastery St. St. Kozma and Damyan / Cyrnogorski

The monastery is known by two names - Tsarnogorski (Shernogorski, Cyrnogorski, Black forest) and Giginski. The first name comes from the location of monastery in the mountain Cherna Gora (Black forest) at the foot of Mount Kitka (1118 m) and the second the name of the village Gigintsi. The monastery is under the auspices of two saints - St. Cosma and St. Damian.

This church is located in the courtyard of the monastery of Etropole. I did when I visited in the summer of 2009.

The Cathedral "The Assumption", Varna, Bulgaria

In the center of Varna is one of the most impressive churches in Bulgaria. The first thousand leva in the construction bill itself gave her Prince Alexander Battenberg. Again he laid the first foundation stone in the construction, which began on August 22, 1880 designed by architect Odessa Maas. Construction of the church building completed in 1886, but its formal inauguration until late 1910.

The Cathedral has three altars. Central is dedicated to the Assumption and the other two - north and south, respectively Mirikliyski St. Nicholas and Alexander Nevsky.

One of the greatest values of the Varna Cathedral frescoes were executed under the guidance of Prof. Rostovtzeff. The decoration of the patriarchal throne and iconostasis is a true masterpiece of wood-carving in the style of the famous Debar school in Bulgaria.

Church of St. John the Theologian, Zemen Monastery, Bulgaria

Most remarkable is the oldest building of the Zemen monastery: the church, which is a monument of culture. In architectural terms it has a special place in the Balkans as a representative of the cruciform architecture.

The temple dates from the founding of monasteries in the 11 century and is just a cube-like room dimensions: length 9.18 meters, 8.71 meters width, height 7 meters (11.20 with coupon). It is built with well carved travertine blocks assembled with mortar cement.

The frescoes of the first layer to cover the second half of the 11th century. The popularity of the monument is not only due to an interesting architectural solution, but the remarkable frescoes of biblical scenes with the 14 century. The altar is a stone monolith, and the floor is built of multicolored stone and antique bricks. Dome was built of stone and stands on a high cylindrical drum.
